A Biological Sciences graduate teaching assistant was killed in a traffic accident Monday evening near Kroger.

Christa Bowen, 35, was leaving the Kroger parking lot, turning south onto North Main Street, when Lehman Myers, 81, of Toledo, struck her vehicle on the passenger side, said Lt. Tony Hetrick of the Bowling Green Police Division. The impact sent Bowen's car into three other vehicles stopped at the light.

Hetrick said witnesses indicated Lehman ran a red light.

Bowen was transported to Wood County Hospital and then to Mercy St. Vincent's Medical Center in Toledo. She was pronounced dead at 11 p.m.

Myers was taken to Wood County Hospital but his injuries did not appear life threatening, Hetrick said. His condition is unknown at this time.

There were no other injuries. Hetrick said the case is being reviewed by the Wood County Prosecutor's office and no charges have been filed at this time.

She was a friend of my heart. Dearest Christa, you will be missed by so many. My love and condolences to your husband and sons.

I am so terribly sorry to hear that tragedy has struck Christa and her family again. Knowing no simple words of mine could erase your sorrow, please do know that Christa is loved and missed by many around the world who she shared and helped through a very difficult journey.

Wishing her husband and sons gentler days as they grieve this very special person, may you feel her love surround you.

My fiance was almost killed by an 80-yr-old woman last year who should not have been driving. Neither should this old man have been on the roads. I hope he will be brought to justice. This is a horrible, horrible tragedy.

This is such a tragedy! I truly believe that individual states need to re-think their regulations on elderly drivers and their absolute need for very close monitoring of and testing on vision, reflexes, memory, etc. It is a FACT that as people age their ability to see and react quickly diminishes and this puts ALL of us at risk for accidents such as this! This is a sad, sad situation - and it needs to be addressed seriously - not just swept under the rug and considered "just another unfortunate accident"! Set some limitations & boundaries on elderly drivers!
